Perspectives from Asian Americans

A Philippine/Chinese American student gave some insight on how he felt towards the taboo of consuming dog meat. He generally thought it to be wrong to consume dog meat and noted that he was a dog owner himself. This is a perfect representation of the Americanization that occurs over generations and how views on cultural cuisine can shift, or how a cultural mesh can take place. His perspective reflects the notion that when many Americans hear the word "dog" they assume the roll of a pet and not so much an entree or meal.

Another student, Vietnamese explained that he has been to family gatherings where it was served and in respect, ate the dog meat for "better health". That, however does not mean that he was in compliance with the customs of consuming dog meat regularly, and he hasn't eaten it in many years.
